Adam and I chat about how his passion for labor and organizing was sparked as a young person and heavily influenced by his spiritual and cultural connection to his Jewish faith. Truly, Moses and the Pharaoh might be the FIRST documented instance of labor relations in history! Who’s to say??
He then turned those convictions into action by organizing his own workplace. Adam and his colleagues at work teamed up with the Teamsters and won big!
Also, I need to BEG everyone’s forgiveness. While I always encourage folks to watch versus listening to our chats, I have to admit that I was tinkering with Zoom and I totally butchered about 85% of the video, so feel free to just listen on this one! WHOOPS!

Union Near Me is an amazing website where you can anonymously share reviews and wage/benefit information about your job.
We chatted with Anna Nowalk, the host of All Who Labor. Her work focuses on the intersections of Catholicism, Labor, and Activism. We love Anna's show, and think you should give it a listen!
Evette, a UPS driver and treasurer of the Teamsters LGBTQ+ caucus, discussed her experience as a union member with Tony. She had been with the Teamsters for 15 years and had seen the positive impact of being in a union, including better compensation, benefits, and job security.
Recently, I had the chance to chat w Chris Fuentes. Chris is the President of the LGBTQ+ Caucus within the Teamsters International, representing over 1.2 million members. Chris is based in Hollywood, WOW, so that was pretty damn cool to hear him talk about being involved in making some amazing TV shows.
Aside from the fun of talking about TV, I hope a few ideas from Chris landed with you. For one, Chris really understands how greedy and selfish most folks are at the ownership level. He said it best when he said “WE DO ALL THE WORK”. How true is that? Chris knows that without a Union, he and his fellow Teamsters would not have the strong wages, working conditions, and benefits that they do have, the Union made all of the difference.
If you work at a hotel in Richmond, you clean and manage the rooms which make it possible for Neil Amin and his dad to sell those rooms for hundreds of millions of dollars on Expedia.com or Booking.com and they keep a ton of it. Remember to check out our hotel math video on YouTube, we link to it down in the notes. You deserve more, and if you organize and stand together, you WILL get it!
Today we chat with Kim Vargas, a 15 year member of the Teamsters Intl and member of their LGBTQ+ caucus. Kim talks about how the Union helped her move from $20/hr to $30/hr to $60/hr plus benefits.
She shares her experiences about how the Union protected her during layoffs and continues to fight for her today. My favorite part of our chat was hearing Kim talk about Rocco, a Teamster leader who has helped her out a ton of times. I thought he was just a dude at her local union in CT, but NO, Rocco is also an executive leader at the Teamsters, and he literally fights for a day to day worker like Kim.
That’s what being in a union is all about! I hope you enjoy our chat with Kim.
